The making of SORA
Share
This design was inspired by our time in Japan, but in a completely different way to Kyoto. With Sora, it was all about what I heard.
I was there during the rainy season, and there's something so calming about the sound of the rain. I wanted to capture that calming sound in a design, so when I came back, using a canvas I painted the rhythm and consistency of the raindrops that I heard. Then transferred it into a print of an embossed type texture printed on a light organza fabric and reinforced by the aqua colour of the sky. Sora means sky in Japanese, so the name felt like the perfect fit. I added the suede fringing because I loved how it moves so naturally, like another earth element.
The flutter sleeves and belt add a feminine feel to the look which is exactly what I wanted to portray through this design. We finished the design with a matching bandana to give it an effortless, free-spirited feel, something that feels relaxed, artistic and true to the world of Avlis Porté.
